About The grand hotels of Madrid: the back story
Madrid’s grand hotels gather in three places. Around the Paseo del Prado and Las Letras, the Mandarin Oriental Ritz faces the Plaza de la Lealtad within sight of the Prado, and the Four Seasons occupies the Canalejas block between Calle de Sevilla and Calle de Alcalá. In Salamanca and along the Paseo de la Castellana stand the Rosewood Villa Magna, the Wellington and Bless. And in the old centre, the Madrid EDITION opens onto the little Plaza de Celenque, a few steps from the Puerta del Sol.
The Paseo del Prado and Las Letras
The Mandarin Oriental Ritz stands on the Plaza de la Lealtad, home of Deessa (Two MICHELIN Stars, 2026). The Four Seasons is at Calle de Sevilla 3, sharing the Canalejas block with the luxury galleria. Gran Hotel Inglés on Calle de Echegaray and Hotel Villa Real on the Plaza de las Cortes are smaller addresses in the same streets.
Salamanca and the Castellana
The Rosewood Villa Magna faces the Paseo de la Castellana at number 22. Around the corner, the Wellington and Bless are on Calle de Velázquez, Salamanca’s grand shopping street, and Hotel Orfila, a palacete of 1886 in the hotel’s own words, is in a quiet street of Chamberí.
You don’t need a room to enjoy them: book lunch at Deessa, a drink on a rooftop or a morning in a spa.
The old centre
The Madrid EDITION is on the Plaza de Celenque, between Sol and the Descalzas Reales; Hotel Urso is on Calle de Mejía Lequerica, near Alonso Martínez.
Smaller and simpler
For a lower budget, Generator Madrid on Calle de San Bernardo and The Hat Madrid on Calle Imperial, by the Plaza Mayor, offer private rooms as well as shared ones.
Our advice: stay near the Prado for museums, in Salamanca for shopping, and in the centre if you want to walk everywhere.
